Privacy notice
This notice explains how Barnes Technology Limited ("Barnes Technology", "we", "us") handles personal data collected through this website, barnestechnology.co.uk. It is written to meet our obligations under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Barnes Technology Limited is a company registered in England & Wales under company number 17177553. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website.
You can contact us about this notice or anything else relating to your data at info@barnestechnology.co.uk.
What we collect on this website
This site is a static marketing site. We deliberately collect very little.
- Web server logs. The website is hosted on Firebase Hosting. When you visit a page, the hosting platform writes a short-lived access log entry containing your IP address, the URL requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the referring page if any. These logs are used to detect abuse and to keep the site running. They are retained by the hosting platform for a limited period in accordance with its own retention policy.
- Strictly-necessary cookies. We use one first-party cookie (
bt_cookie_ack) to remember that you have dismissed the cookie notice. It contains the value1and expires after one year. It does not identify you. - Email correspondence. If you email us, we will hold your email address, the content of your message and any attachments for as long as is necessary to deal with the matter — and afterwards if we have a lawful reason to keep it (for example, an active commercial relationship or a legal obligation).
We do not currently run any analytics, advertising, retargeting or social tracking on this website. If that changes, we will update this notice and add a proper consent mechanism before any such tools are loaded.
Embedded fonts
The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts (Hanken Grotesk, Source Serif Pro, JetBrains Mono). When your browser requests a font, Google receives your IP address and the URL of the page making the request. We have no control over and do not receive that information ourselves. Google's privacy notice covers how it handles such requests.
External links
This site links to third-party services including LinkedIn, Companies House and our venture sites (e.g. Park Attack). Those services have their own privacy notices and we are not responsible for them.
Lawful bases
We process personal data on the following lawful bases under Article 6(1) UK GDPR:
- Legitimate interests — for hosting access logs, security, and dealing with correspondence you initiate.
- Consent — for any non-essential cookies or tracking, which we will only deploy after asking. The site does not currently load any such tools.
- Contract / steps prior to a contract — where you are contacting us about a commercial relationship.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to keep records (for example, tax or company law).
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it if it is wrong;
- ask us to delete it (subject to any legal obligations we have to keep it);
- object to a particular use of it;
- ask us to restrict how we use it; and
- where applicable, ask for it in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@barnestechnology.co.uk. We will respond within one calendar month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
International transfers
Some of the services we use to run this website (notably Firebase Hosting and Google Fonts, both operated by Google) may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards under UK GDPR, including the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice if our practices change. The version and issue date at the top of the page will be updated accordingly. The previous 2020 privacy policy is superseded by this notice and should no longer be relied upon.
